Canterbury Tales Blog 11

BLOG 11: In her Prologue, Alysoun challenges the Medieval
Church (priests, theologians, and all) on the subject of marriage
and points out numerous fallacies in their reasoning. Identify at
least two of these fallacies. Don’t go to Google for this one. Use
the text. Choose a song that you think the Wife of Bath would like
and explain why you think so. Include the lyrics and a link to the
song. What celebrity can you visualize as the Wife of Bath? Why?
Include her picture (or his, whichever the case may be… ).

In the Wife of Bath's prologue she goes on about saying how she has had five husbands. She then points out that she believes the Bible has been misinterpreted by men and that she should be able to have as many husbands as she wants. She also points out that in the Bible, God tells to multiply and that polygamy is not said to be bad anywhere. She then says that a woman has control over a mans body.
I feel that a song that would represent the Wife of Bath is "She Don't Love You" by Eric Paslay. I feel that this fits her very well because she never really loved any of her husbands she just wanted them out of her own selfish needs.

"She Don't Love You"
She don't love you, she's just lonely
She wasn't once upon a time
She used to dance when the band played
She used to be the trustin' kind

She's no stranger to the leaving
She's heard all the best goodbyes
Fallin' has a different meaning
To her you're just another guy

She don't love you, she's just lonely
She don't know another way
To break free from what's been broken
Too many cowboys rode away
So forgive her if she's distant
She can't tell her heart to lie, no
You'll never be her one and only
She don't love you, she's just lonely

You can hold her in the moonlight
You can give her all the stars
You can promise her forever
But you'll never have her heart

She don't love you, she's just lonely
She don't know another way
To break free from what's been broken
Too many cowboys rode away
So forgive her if she's distant
She can't tell her heart to lie, no
You'll never be her one and only
She don't love you, she's just lonely

She don't love you
She don't love you, she's just lonely
She wasn't once upon a time
I remember her in the sunlight
I remember her when she was mine
Mine

I feel that a good character for the Wife of Bath would have to be Ursula from the Little Mermaid because she didn't want to marry Prince Eric because she loved him. She wanted to marry him to spite Ariel and for her won selfish reasons.
